So, I finally updated Firefox to version 16.02 this morning. For some reason Flash Player had become incredibly unresponsive and was bordering on unusable and this update was required to fix it.
This also disabled one of my favorite add-ons, the Firefox 3 Aero theme for Firefox 4+. I use a lot of add-ons in Firefox and have spent plenty of time customizing things to the way they are. This theme adds a pleasing rounded blue motif to the navigation toolbar and I didn't want to give it up.
Luckily, there is a fix. If you modify the add-on <em:maxVersion> field in the install.rdf it can be installed and run in Firefox 16.02 (or later). Instructions for how to do so are found here.
Unfortunately, it seems like the developer Jeremy Morton will no longer be supporting this add-on due to Mozilla's removal of tabs-on-the-bottom. While I can understand this, I will certainly miss the Firefox 3 theme. I don't personally use bottom tabs, but I can see the attraction. Hopefully I can continue to run this modified add-on without any troubles.
