Steel Cut Oats the Easy Way

Now for a non-computer related post. If you're like me, you're always looking to improve life and make things more efficient. Here, I describe my tried and tested method for making steel or stone cut oatmeal. Setup take about 5 minutes and cleanup about the same. Note, a slow cooker is required.

Step 1 - Put Oats and water in a bowl as per the instructions on the pack (usually 1 cup oats, 3 cups water)

Step 2 - Put bowl in crock pot and add water around the edges to transfer the heat

Step 3 - Turn on low and go to bed

Step 4 - Wake up to warm and perfectly cooked oats. Makes enough for 3 or 4 meals. I usually just put some plastic wrap over the bowl and store it in the fridge

The best thing about this method is that it's really easy to clean up. Just dump the water out of the crock pot and dry it off. It's also impossible to burn the oats or get them stuck to the pot. Some people use more elaborate methods because they're worried about the glass shattering. However, I've done this many times using oven-safe glass and haven't had any issues.
